BORO

Posted on April 12, 2014 7:55 pm

Visited this extraordinary exhibition yesterday at Somerset House, London.

Boro translated from the Japanese means 'rags' and is the collective name for items of clothing and bed covers made by the poor rural population of Japan up to about 100 years ago. The indigo scraps are pieced and stitched together with homespun bast fibre and patched and repatched forming these wonderful patterns and textures.
