Since art college I have always kept a scrapbook and I recommend it, although trawling through every newspaper and magazine before they go in to the recycling bin is very time consuming ! I keep things I like, things I don't like, craft ideas, packaging and even pinups. Mainly its things to inspire. I now use folders with plastic leaves.
